{Bereishis 3:16} “To the woman He said, “I will greatly increase your suffering and your pregnancy; in pain shall you bear children. And your craving shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”
Rashi comments:
“your suffering” – This is the pain of raising children.
“and your pregnancy” – This is the pain of pregnancy.
“in pain shall you bear children” – This is the pain of giving birth.
The question is simple and strong: Why is the curse not in the natural order of pregnancy, birth, raising children?
Her “husband” is included in the children being raised, so the order is in fact correct.
Ha, I hear.
Hi there,
I have a simple Teirutz that I thought of.
The day on which Adam was created consisted of twelve hours. During the first hour his dust was gathered; the second hour it was made into a shapeless mass; the third hour his limbs were stretched out; the fourth hour a soul was placed in him; the fifth hour he stood on his feet; the sixth hour he named the animals; the seventh hour he was paired with Chava; the eighth hour they had two children; the ninth hour he was commanded not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge; the tenth hour he sinned; the eleventh hour he was judged; and the twelfth hour he was banished from the Garden of Eden and went on his way (Sanhedrin 38b)
(cut and pasted from Chabad.com)
At thepoint when the curse was given Chava already had children so therefore the curses are in chronological order 1. pain of raising children came first because she currently had children, then 2. the curse for future pregnancy which would be chronologically at some later point,
3. the pain of giving birth which would follow the pregnancy.
Kul Tuv.

Nice answer. The Sifsei Chachamim quotes the Divrei Dovid (the Taz) suggesting such an approach.

Just thinking…
maybe because big sisters help the mommy to raise the children before they themself go through pregnancy and birth. but this answer won’t work for the babysister…
I think the reason is because Raising Children is non ending Pain
Pregnancy is only nine Month
Birth is a few hours
